Bike New York is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, with a mission to promote and encourage bicycling and bicycle safety through education, public events, and collaboration with community and government organizations. Best known for producing America's largest cycling event, a 42-mile, traffic-free ride for some 32,000 cyclists known as the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, we also host regional rides outside NYC, offer free classes to the public, and run multiple summer camp and after school programs throughout New York City. Job Description: Bike Fleet Manager
Bike New York’s Education department seeks an energetic, organized person with bike maintenance and bike mechanic skills to manage our growing bike fleet and our Community Bicycle Education Centers. In 2012, Bike New York’s eight Community Bicycle Education Centers, located in parks and schools throughout New York City’s five boroughs, will house a total of nearly 300 bicycles. Used during our weekly Learn to Ride - Adults and Bicycling Basics classes, as well as our summer camp and after school programs, each fleet will require tracking, necessary repairs, tool and replacement parts purchases, and reorganization throughout the season. This job involves some office work and a lot of time at and traveling between our Community Education Centers, and includes the scheduling and overseeing of part-time bike mechanics.

Responsibilities include:
● Conducting routine inspections of bikes; performing some repairs and/or supervising mechanics who perform the repairs, then assessing their work.
● Ordering parts and supplies for bike repairs; keeping our Bicycle Education Centers well stocked with other equipment and supplies for instructors, such as paper work and first aid kits.
● Develop a parts and supplies inventory system for our Bicycle Education Centers;
● Keeping our Bicycle Education Centers neat, well organized, and easy to use; developing a more functional storage system for our bikes.
● Developing a bike repair order system for instructors to request bike repairs; develop a bike repair tracking system.
● Working with Education department staff to train instructors on using our Bicycle Education Centers; help train instructors on how to inspect bikes and to establish what repairs they can perform easily themselves, and when to put in a repair request.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must be a cycling enthusiast, who has very strong organizational skills. Candidates must be able to work independently and take initiative in developing new procedures to make our Bicycle Education Centers function efficiently.
● Bachelor’s or Associates degree;
● Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; ability to develop inventory and tracking systems a plus;
● Must have the ability to diagnose bike repair problems, and perform a full range of bike repairs.

This position is year ‘round, 30-hours a week with a competitive salary.
